Hiring oil & gas rope access technicians.
What certifications does an oil & gas rope access crew need?
For offshore platforms and refinery turnarounds, every technician needs IRATA certification plus OPITO BOSIET/FOET offshore safety training and a valid offshore medical — no valid BOSIET means no permit to board. NDT qualifications (UT, MT, PT) are the trade ticket most in demand on top of IRATA in this sector.
Is an IRATA Level 3 supervisor required on an oil & gas site?
Yes. Every IRATA worksite, including oil & gas turnarounds, must have a Level 3 safety supervisor present to own the method statement, risk assessment, and rescue plan — a crew of Level 1/2 technicians cannot operate without one.
